Born in Los Angeles, raised in Costa Rica, Roxana Jullapat always thought she would be a journalist. So, when she went off to college, that’s what she studied.  All that changed when she took some time off after school, came back to Los Angeles and started working in a neighborhood bistro. One night, while making a tarte tartin in the tiny kitchen of this bistro, she knew she needed to change course.

The next ten years were spent working, learning, and honing her skills in some of the most highly acclaimed American restaurants, including: Campanile, Bastide, Lucques, AOC, and Clarklewis.

In 2011, along with three partners, she opened Cooks County, in the heart of Los Angeles.

The yearlong availability of outstanding fruits and vegetables in California is a source of great inspiration for Roxana. She is also a champion of working with alternative and heritage grains. Her pastry menus are known as one of, if not the most, farmers’ market driven in town.
